About the exhibition

The coast does not pose. It simply exists, worn down by salt and wind and the weight of time. These six works were made along the edges of Portugal, in places where beauty and decay share the same wall. Not staged, not searched for. Found.

The series

Six black-and-white fine art prints, each one a quiet moment along the Portuguese coast. The series moves between landscape, architecture and the small details most people walk past without noticing. A rusted staircase. A half-open door. Light on a broken wall. Each image holds still long enough to let you look.

The artist

Lidija Schrage

Lidija Schrage works without distance. The camera goes where other people hesitate, and stays until something real shows itself.

Born in the Netherlands, Schrage spent years photographing the industrial edges of Rotterdam, drawn to the poetry in what others call ordinary. Dockworkers. Rain on concrete. A window with a view of nothing. Her early work established a visual language built on restraint, precision and the kind of patience that lets a scene breathe before it is taken.

Portugal came later, and differently. A chance visit turned into a longer conversation with the country's particular quality of light, its textures of salt and stone, the way time seems to accumulate visibly on every surface. The works in this exhibition were made across multiple visits to the southern coast, each one pushing further into the margins of the landscape.

The results are six photographs that do not explain themselves. They ask the viewer to slow down, to stop searching for subject matter, and instead to receive what is already there.
